Amaç: Bu çal›flmada, streptozin ile diyabet gelifltirilen s›çanlarda, Urtica dioica yapraklar›n›n hidroalkol ekstrakt›n›n, karaci¤erde gözlenen kantitatif morfometrik de¤ifliklikler üzerine olan koruyucu etkisinin araflt›r›lmas› amaçlanm›flt›r. Yöntem: Otuz adet erkek Wistar cinsi s›çan kontrol (G1), diyabetik (G2) ve diyabetik+Urtica dioica (G3) olmak üzere 3 gruba ayr›ld›lar. Kontrol grubuna sadece intraperitoneal salin enjeksiyonu yap›l›rken, diyabetik gruptaki s›çanlara 5 gün salin enjeksiyonun ertesinde 6. gün intraperitoneal olarak 80 mg/kg streptozosin uyguland›. diyabetik+Urtica dioica grubunda ise 5 gün boyunca 100 mg/kg Urtica dioica enjeksiyonunu takiben 6. günde 80 mg/kg streptozosin uyguland›. Befl hafta takibin ertesinde tüm s›çanlar sakrifiye edilerek karaci¤erleri bütün olarak ç›kart›ld›. Karaci¤er örnekleri hematoksilen ve eosin ile boyand›ktan sonar kantitatif morfometrik analizler için kullan›ld›lar. Tüm veriler ortalama ± standard sapma kullan›larak tan›mland› ve tek yönlü ANOVA ve de¤erlendirildi. Sonuç: G3’de (Diyabetik+Urtica dioica) periportal bölgedeki (Z1) hepatositlerin ortalama yüzey alanlar G2 (Diyabetik) ve G1’dekilerden daha büyüktü ancak fark istatistiksel olarak anlaml› bulunmad›. Ayr›ca, perivenöz (Z3) bölgedeki hepatositlerin yüzey alanlar› karfl›laflt›r›ld›¤›nda G3 (Diyabetik+Urtica dioica) ile G2 (Diyabetik) aras›nda anlaml› farkl›l›k tespit edilmedi. Ortalama çekirdek yüzey alanlar› G3 (Diyabetik+Urtica dioica) grubunda G2 (Diyabetik) ile karfl›laflt›r›ld›¤›nda, Z1’de daha yüksek ve Z3’de daha düflük bulundu. Ortalama hepatosit çekirdek çap› Z1 ve Z3 bölgelerinde, G3’de (Diyabetik+Urtica dioica), G2 (Diyabetik) ve G1 (Kontrol) gruplar›na göre daha düflük bulundu. Yorum: Bu çal›flman›n sonuçar›na göre; s›çanlarda, Urtica dioica yapraklar›n›n ekstrakt›n›n uygulanmas›n›n, streptozosin ile diyabetik gelifltirilen s›çanlarda karaci¤er lobulündeki periportal ve perivenöz bölgelerdeki hepatositlerde gözlenen morfometrik de¤ifliklikler üzerinde koruyucu etkisi mevcuttur.
